Artist Statement

It is clear to me that in our modern digital world, people want to be part of the art. They don’t want to watch. They want to be immersed. I hope to be part of this media transition as I grow my artistic ability. I think through my short film “You are Earth, I am Everyone” I have found a medium that not only suits me and my art, but also has so much potential for storytelling that hasn’t been tapped into yet. My creations are not designed to be static exhibits, but instead interactive spaces.

Biography

Fusing experimental techniques with abstract qualities, Boulder-based, multimedia artist Taylor Passios has produced an unconventional style in her projects. Born in 1998 in the bustling city of Manhattan, she was often influenced by the multitude of reflective lights and the restlessness that coincides with it. Taylor’s most recent project focused on capturing the “self” through photograph, in which she covered her entire face with eyeballs as she played with different combinations of light and shutter speed. Other recent projects include working with the Fiske planetarium to create a POV timelapse, where the audience is virtually splattered with paint, glitter, and other materials.

Taylor’s interest in contemporary creative approaches give her art a fresh faced perspective on how to use modern technology as a means to tell a story. Her upcoming projects dive deeper into the human psyche, by utilizing her HTML and adobe software skills to create new digital symbolism in her work. Her inspiration is often found in observation analysis of human or object transformation, such as a plant growing and then withering away. She often finds herself fascinated with how energy moves and changes, always with the hopes of documenting it for an audience.

Her past work focused primarily on documentary-styled photographic collections, such as her “Eighty Days” piece that followed the transformation of herself and her sixteen ship mates as they sailed through the Caribbean for three months. She is also a licensed rescue scuba diver that has experience with underwater videography. Taylor is persistent in pushing the envelope when it comes to bringing a uniquely, original take on artistic expression. Garnering much praise from fans and critics alike with her steady stream of new material, she is excited to continue to build her portfolio and take her imaginative innovations to new heights.
